Girls Giving Grants (g3) is the youth initiative of Impact Austin, a giving circle for girls in grades 8-12, founded in 2006. Members of g3 pool $125 donations each year to collectively fund one grant announced in April. Each fall, training activities prepare them for the grant review process. Reviews begin in November. Here is a recap of their activities to date.

September

The year's program began with a leadership retreat that included g3 leaders and adult co-chairs and advisors. This occurred even as new members were still registering. On September 21, the 63 members held their first meeting that included a welcome, team building, and application review training.

October

On October 19, we had the privilege of hearing from two community speakers who shared their lived experiences. They also generously provided valuable tips. Following the community panel discussion, we participated in an ethics training session.

Also in October, the g3 members were surprised by special recognition from RecognizeGood’s Executive Director Joel Coffman. As part of their Lighthouses program, g3 was presented with a $1,000 award in recognition for their impact and continued work in the community. This was an incredible honor and the grant helped to ensure that the g3 program would have $8,000 to award to one of the 51 grant applications they will be reviewing this year. You can read more about the RecognizeGood honor here.

On November 9, Girls Giving Grants officially launched the review process for the grant applications. It was an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together, collaborate, and exchange ideas. We began with training on the best practices for handling and managing confidential information, ensuring that everyone is well-equipped to maintain the integrity and privacy of the materials involved. It was a productive session that set a positive tone for the next steps in the grant review process!

What comes next?

  • December - Application reviews continue. At a second meeting, the g3 team also undertakes a fun and service activity that often benefits their most recent grant recipient.

  • January - As application review continues, semi-finalists are selected.

  • February - Finalists are chosen, and the g3 team prepares for site visits.

  • April - Site visits take place, and members vote electronically for their 2026 awardee.

  • April 19 - g3 announces the recipient of their $8,000 grant

  • June - g3 members join Impact Austin members at Annual Meeting for a formal check presentation.
