GROWTH AND CHANGE: The Community Takes Notice

In celebration of our 20th year, Impact Austin looks back on challenges and opportunities that helped us to grow and mature as a circle of women philanthropists and collective giving grantmaker in Central Texas.

As Impact Austin began to grow, make grants, and thrive, Central Texas took notice.

Member-volunteers worked hard to promote Impact Austin's results and to attract NEW members to our ranks. Member Karen Frost (Frost Media Relations), Dina Mavridis, and Laura Green wrote news releases and organized print, TV, and radio coverage. The visibility paid off. What follows is a partial list of awards, recognitions, and exceptional news coverage, not even including reports of our annual grants. The list includes honors for Impact Austin as an organization and also praise for our founder Rebecca Powers.

*A CBS Evening News crew visited the Impact Conference hosted by Impact Austin to get a bird's eye view of women 'giving together'. Held at St. David's Episcopal Church in Austin, the event included giving circles from Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Owensboro, Pensacola, and San Antonio. During the week of Thanksgiving, 2006, Katie Couric aired a segment about the growing trend of women's giving circles across the country which featured Impact Austin and LifeWorks. You can see the news feature here. Kudos to former Impact Austin board member Karen Frost for organizing the opportunity.
