Impact Austin awarded five $100,000 grants to worthy nonprofit organizations in June, and three months later, we are checking in with our 2014 Community Partners to hear more about the programs we funded and their impact for the organization, and for the Austin community.
Here’s what Samaritan Center had to say:
“With this generous grant from Impact Austin, the Samaritan Center is able to provide life-saving and cost-effective psychiatric care to the most vulnerable in Central Texas. Tele-psychiatry has been a long-time dream here at the Center, so we are thankful for the support in making this critical need a reality.” --Nancy Blaich, CEO
The Samaritan Center’s mission is to provide professional counseling, integrative medicine, and community education to prevent and treat abuse, teach healthy life skills, and strengthen families.
The Integrated Health Care for a Healthier Community Project funded by Impact Austin’s grant will address the problem of a fragmented health care system by providing tele-psychiatry services and by providing a full-time case manager. The tele-psychiatric care will provide access to time-sensitive psychiatric assessments, medication adjustments and prescription assistance that is currently not available for 208 adults and children. The case manager will help clients access other needed services in the community as well as improve communication and coordination of care among the treating professionals and clients.
