Project Title:
Blanco River Reforestation Project
Project Description:
TreeFolks will plant trees to restore the riparian forest on more than 1,000 residential properties in Hays County devastated by the 2015 floods. Many homeowners lost shelter and possessions and need assistance replanting their lands.
Impact Austin funding will provide landowner consultation and planting of 385,000 trees on 800 acres along the Blanco River. The project will improve the ecosystem and provide healthy growth for future protection against flood damage.
Grant Status:
Impact Austin’s grant helped with reforestation efforts after the 2015 Memorial Day floods in Hays County. Tree Folks was able to serve twice as many families as they might have been able to without the grant. implement on-site consultations and complete site plans for 100-150 landowners affected by 2015 flooding.
Exceeded community outreach goals to recruit 280 applications for reforestation services

In two seasons, reforested 206 acres of property along the Blanco river, reducing runoff and erosion, increasing river resiliency to future floods and droughts, increase baseline water flow, hasten tree reestablishment.
Plant 140,486 saplings on private land.
