Member Spotlight on Suzanne Daniels

Suzanne Daniels is a creative force of nature! Juggling home, parenthood, a passion for design, volunteer work for Impact Austin and now a brand new project (keep reading to find out what it is)...there is no stopping her!

Suzanne, how and when did you hear about Impact Austin and why did you decide to join?

I joined in 2012 when Angela Osborn recruited me to do graphic design work for Impact Austin. After learning about the organization and the wonderful work they do, I knew I wanted to contribute and be a part of this amazing group of women.

What work besides graphic design have you done for Impact Austin?

I have been on the Marketing Committee since Day 1 creating print and web pieces for all of Impact Austin’s needs.

I was also on the committee for Impact Austin’s rebranding and website redesign project.

What is your profession?

I have been a graphic designer for over fifteen years but I am actually embarking on a new endeavor. I am in the process of opening Brentwood Social House – a family-friendly neighborhood coffee house in North Central Austin.

Brentwood Social House sounds really interesting!  Have you incorporated some of your design background into it, and if so, how? Do you have a target date for opening and letting all of us at Impact Austin know when we can come celebrate with you?

My business partner, Sarah, is the baker, creating the wholesome food and I’m the designer, helping to create a nourishing environment. Together we make a wonderful team creating the body and soul of Brentwood Social House. We are hoping to open in September and you can be sure that we will be hosting Impact Austin events!

Considering your multiple projects, have you worked with other non-profits in the Austin area?

I’m currently only involved with Impact Austin but in the recent past I have volunteered with Sustainable Food Center, Habitat for Humanity and Austin Boxer Rescue.

Tell us about your family!

I have an amazing husband, Jairy, and 20-month old daughter, Mena. My parents moved from Houston to Leander after our daughter was born so, fortunately for all of us, they get to play a daily role in our lives.

What is the most important thing you have learned by being an Impact Austin member?

The power of collective compassion! It continues to astound me how every year my $1250 contribution can turn into $426,000 to help well-deserving non-profits in Austin.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you…

While earning my BA in Biology, I spent a summer in the rainforest of Veracruz, Mexico studying nocturnal tree frogs and a summer interning at the Houston Zoo working in the veterinary clinic and with the elephants. I also helped translate the majority of the animal names (i.e. reptiles, amphibians, birds, etc.) at the zoo into Spanish for their identification plaques. (This was pre-Internet!)
