Impact Austin pools each $1000 member donation and gives several high-impact grants to local causes that are selected by the membership. 

In 2019, Impact Austin will award one catalyst grant and program grants in three focus areas: Community, Education, and Health and Well-Being.

Additionally, Impact Austin will award its first Social Innovation Grant in November 2019. The organization is ; accepting proposals in August-September, will evaluate those proposals in September-October, and the full membership will vote to decide where to award the grant in November.  

Nonprofit organizations may apply for only one type of grant (Program or Catalyst) per year; however, they may also apply for the Social Innovation Grant in the same year.

To qualify for an Impact Austin grant, an organization must be classified as a “public charity” with tax-exempt status under Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

Organizations who have been awarded an Impact Austin grant (program or catalyst) may not reapply for the following two years. For example, a Community Partner awarded a grant in June 2018 is not eligible to apply for another grant until July 2020.

In addition, the organization’s proposal for a program grant must:


  • Outline a project or program that targets a specific population for a specific duration and with specific measurable goals to be achieved.

  • Provide services in Travis, Hays, Bastrop and/or Williamson counties, Texas.

  • Use the full amount of Impact Austin’s available grant.

  • Plan to expend the grant funds within 24 months.

  • Each grant applicant must select only one focus area under which it wishes to be considered. Impact Austin does not provide guidance as to which focus area is appropriate.

Catalyst Grant Eligibility

All past Impact Austin finalists and community partners are eligible to apply for a catalyst grant.

In addition, other nonprofits are eligible to apply for a catalyst grant, if they meet the following criteria:

The organization has an annual operating budget of $250,000 or greater


  • The organization has at least two full time equivalent staff.

  • The organization has been in continuous operation as an independent entity for at least five years.

The following rules apply to all catalyst grant applications:

  • The organization has tax-exempt status under Sections 501(c)(3) or 509(a) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

  • The organization can produce an audited financial statement prepared within the last 24 months.

  • The organization meets all eligibility requirements for an Impact Austin program grant, including geographic area served and intention to spend all grant funds within the designated period of the grant.

  • A nonprofit organization cannot apply for both a program grant and a catalyst grant in the same year. They may submit only one proposal each year.

  • An organization that has received a grant from Impact Austin may not reapply in the following two years.

  • Collaborations must identify one lead organization to submit the application.
