Impact Austin Members in Community News – Austin’s Fab Five

Kali RourkeCollective giving is a powerful way to practice philanthropy. One of the benefits of gathering a group of philanthropic women together is that we also get to celebrate their community service accomplishments with them!

Kali´ Rourke is a long-time member and supporter of Impact Austin. She has filled many roles in the organization since joining in FY2005, volunteering on multiple Grant Review Committees, serving as a member of the Board of Directors (2011-2013), and volunteering on the Marketing Committee.

Recently, she was chosen as one of Austin’s Fab Five for 2016. Austin’s Fab Five is a gala event that honors “5 Heroes for Children” in the Austin area, and benefits Seedling Foundation. The event is scheduled for the evening of April 16, 2016, and our own Kali´ will be joined by Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo; Travis County Judge, 126th Civil District Court & NCJFCJ Board President Darlene Byrne; Attorney and Former Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole, and Chief Deputy Executive Commissioner, Texas Health & Human Services Commission, Charles Smith as this year’s honorees.

Kali´ has been donating her time, talent, and passion to Austin’s children for decades and the list of her accomplishments is long, but Seedling is honoring her in particular for her role as Founding Board President of the Foundation, and as one of the architects of the highly respected and award-winning Seedling Mentor Program. Kali´ led the Seedling Board through the creation, implementation and metrics processes of this school based, highly supported and research driven mentoring program that has touched the lives of thousands of Central Texas school children, who deal with the challenge of parental incarceration.

She credits Impact Austin with teaching her to recognize excellence in nonprofits and the programs they provide to the community, and says,

“Everything I learned in reviewing grants through my Impact Austin membership, influenced what I looked for from Seedling’s programs and metrics. It was ‘on the job’ training to be a better board member and a better leader.”

We congratulate Kali´ on this great honor, and know that many Impact Austin members will be in attendance to cheer on one of our own.
